Well, this is the second time I have written this blog post as for some reason WordPress decided it didn’t want to save my ramblings as ususal … anyhow.. I’ve managed to rescue some of it and have added some more rambles …
I just wanted to say (again ) that although #BYOD4L is over for another year, the community itself however is still very much alive and kicking !
Friday proved to be yet another fab exchange of ideas in our tweetchat.
I must admit though that I found it quite challenging at times trying to facilitate between posting the Questions and juggling the Tasks. I had to resort quite a few times to asking Alex and the rest of the lovely #BYOD4L team which one we were supposed to be on !
The wonderful community that is #BYOD4l embraced the whole thing as usual and contributed and shared so many ideas , images and resources in such a creative way … Check these fab ones out from the lovely Suzanne, Neil and Kerry 🙂
T1 I’ve someone accidentally managed to create this. I’ve no idea what it is, how I did it or how to edit it 🙈😱😂 #BYOD4Lchat but I don’t care because I posted my very own first blog today 🥂😂 pic.twitter.com/hRroseXefo
There were so many things that I was inspired by that are simply too many to mention but a key ‘moment’ if you pardon the pun was when my lovely colleague Chris Jobling gave an impromptu ‘how to’ session on how to use Twitter Moments … and in true fashion modelling what he talks about he has made a moment … I’ve embedded it here as its brill 🙂 I will be experimenting with moments very soon ! In the meantime … enjoy this one Chris prepared earlier …
In celebration of the fact that we have the collaborating and community theme going on today, I did a periscope this morning …. aided by my lovely roomie Rhian…we just did a very quick hello but I thought I would share some thoughts … so
a couple of quick reflections from me …
Save to Camera Roll Settings
I forgot to change my settings to autosave the video to my camera roll ( it will disappear from Persicope after 24hrs) I’ve now done this for the next one …
As a workaround though, I used this helpful link that I found online http://www.downloadperiscopevideos.com/ which allowed me to copy and paste my periscope URL link ( which I found by searching for my name on Persiscope TV on my PC ) into a box and then click a button to magically download the file. I then uploaded that resulting file to my You Tube account .. ( there may be an easier way ! )
Send out a tweet beforehand …
I did however remember to send out a tweet ( but only just ) to let people know
I wish I had read this really helpful article from Donna Moritz ( @sociallysorted) before I did it … I’ve also found this other good article from Mike Paul (pikemalltech.com) that has some tips for educators using Periscope.
Periscope is kinda cool with a buddy aka my lovely pal Rhian Ellis(@rhianellis3)
I may not make this evening’s tweetchat, in full but I will be back tomorrow ! Happy Collaborating ….
We were going to do a persicope but time ran away with us so just a selfie.
We had a lovely talk over a cuppa though about how things have been going with #BYOD4L this week and looked at things like using Tweetdeck and also briefly about Open Digital Badges and how they work.
Non mentioned that she was really enjoying the week and that being able to access the resources and undertake her reflections at times to suit her was a real bonus. She is also new to tweet chats so seeing how Tweetdeck can help was a revelation.
Louise took the opportunity ( as per usual) to throw in some well timed HEA Fellowship related observations and mentioned how useful the #BYOD4l activities can be for colleagues thinking about fellowship.
Great list of resources here on digital learning if your looking for references for #HEAFellowship //byod4learning.wordpress.com/resources/ #BYOD4L
We also talked about the need for people to take personal responsibility and ownership of their own CPD. Non is hoping to apply for some of the badges available and I took pleasure in showing her my own badge collection ! ( #deblovesbadges)
The topic of curation came up of course ( which was very apt as it is the subject of today’s C ! ). Lou mentioned that she uses pocket together with If-This-Then-That but that she is keen to see what things she can learn from tonight’s tweet chat as she is thinking of setting up a Menderley group .
I use Menderley for my PhD studies and follow a couple of groups but hadnt really thought of it as a tool for curation ? I do use things like Nuzzel and Scoop it for curation and have also played around with some other tools and the ones that might be worth a look at in relation to Curation can be found here …
I’ve put them on a new tool I found a couple of weeks ago called ELink
Right then … just doing some final checks for tonights tweetchat … see you shortly for the joint #BYOD4Lchat and #LTHEchat twitter chat at 8pm …
mmm… looking forward to helping Sheila on tonight’s tweetchat …for #BYOD4L #BYOD4Lchat
I wish I was a bit better at curating stuff … I have experimented over the years with a couple of different tools including Scoop. It, Nuzzel , Pocket etc … I have recently found a URL sharing tool called Elink so I have put some links to some curation tools on there … Looking forward to seeing what others share tonight !
Neil and I split the questions between us which turned out to be a good strategy as these ones were done live rather than using the tweetdeck scheduler. I actually set an alarm on my watch to make sure I didn’t forget to post my allocation of questions … I have a habit of getting carried away with stuff and then rushing to post the tweet and forget the hashtag but having a little buzzer to remind me to do it in advance worked well ! We also managed to get all six questions into the hour…
What was lovely was the fact that the extension to the original ‘C’ by adding ‘Confidence’ seemed to give as some richer engagements as Alex observed in our post tweetchat backchannel messages.
There seem to have been some real moments of confidence-building happening throughout the day yesterday, including some experimentation with Periscopes which were fab.
Hi Suzanne, I have signed up to Periscope today, inspired by #BYOD4L haven't had chance (or maybe confidence) to try it out yet – but always great to find a new tool!
I always learn so much from #BYOD4L myself …I”m looking forward to finding out more about snapchat from Suzanne … all I have ever done with it is a couple of face swap pictures and some sparkly filters … and I can’t remember how I did that !
I keep promising to write a blog about my use of @Snapchat as a tutorial tool, which I’d be happy to share with you if you’re interested? I have the fear (of blogging) and have the good excuse of being v busy with the students until the start of Feb. Watch this space 🙈!
